The basics

About pelvic floor therapy

What is pelvic floor therapy, and how does it help?
Pelvic floor therapy is a specialized type of therapy that focuses on the muscles, nerves, and joints that support your bladder, bowels, and reproductive organs. At our Southlake pelvic floor physical therapy clinic, we use pelvic floor therapy to help with bladder leaks, pelvic pain, painful sex, constipation, bowel issues, and pregnancy or postpartum changes. Instead of just masking symptoms, pelvic floor therapy works by identifying and treating the root cause of why those muscles aren't working well in the first place, so your body can function more normally and comfortably.
Will I just be doing Kegels?
No. Kegels are only one small tool, and they are not right for everyone. For some symptoms they can actually make things worse. Pelvic floor therapy looks at the whole picture: how your muscles, breathing, posture, and movement work together. Your plan is built around what your body actually needs, which often has little to do with squeezing exercises.

Getting started

Booking & referrals

Not sure yet? Send a note, or ask when you call.

How do I get started?
Submit a short inquiry through our contact page or call us. Our team will reach out to answer your questions and find a time that works. There is no self-scheduling, on purpose, so your first contact is with a person, not a calendar.
Do I need a referral?
Texas allows direct access to physical therapy, so most patients can start care without a referral. We do typically request one within the first 30 days to keep your care coordinated and compliant, and if you need help getting it, we'll guide you through the process.
Do you treat men?
Yes. Men’s pelvic health is one of our focus areas, including post-prostatectomy recovery, chronic pelvic pain, pudendal issues, and urinary symptoms. It is underserved, and we treat it routinely.
How quickly can I be seen?
We are currently accepting new patients and most are seen within a week or two. When you reach out, we will give you the soonest available times.
How many visits will I need?
It depends on what we find and what you want to get back to. Some people need only a few visits; more complex cases can take longer. After your first visit, Christine will give you an honest sense of what your plan may look like, and we will tell you when we think you no longer need us.
Your visit

What the visit is like

Not sure yet? Send a note, or ask when you call.

What happens at the first visit?
We talk first, about your history, symptoms, and goals. Then a movement and pelvic-health evaluation, which may include an internal exam if relevant and you consent. You leave with a clear understanding and a starting plan. See the First Visit page for a full walk-through.
Will the treatment hurt?
Our goal is comfort, not pain. Most of what we do is gentle, and everything is explained before we begin. Some techniques can feel tender, especially in an area that is already sensitive, but nothing happens without your consent and you can pause at any time. We check in throughout and work at a pace that feels right for you.
Is an internal exam always required?
No. An internal assessment is sometimes the most useful way to understand pelvic floor function, but it is always explained first and never done without your consent. You are in control of every part of the visit.
How long is each appointment?
A full hour, every visit, and it is one-on-one with your specialist the entire time, never handed off to an aide. That hour is what lets us truly understand your symptoms, treat thoroughly, and answer every question you have.
Can I come if I'm on my period?
Yes, you can absolutely come to your appointment while on your period. It will not affect your session, and we work with menstruating patients all the time. Your comfort always comes first.
What should I wear and bring?
Wear something comfortable that allows movement. Leggings, shorts, or joggers work well. No special clothing is required.
Is everything private and confidential?
Yes. Your information is protected and confidential. We follow strict privacy standards for every patient.
Where are you located?
Southlake, TX, with easy access from across DFW. The clinic is one private treatment room designed to feel calm and quiet. Free parking, ground floor, accessible.
Conditions & care

My scans and labs came back normal. Can you still help?
Yes, that is exactly who we see most. Normal imaging does not mean the pain isn’t real. Pelvic symptoms often come from muscle, nerve, and coordination patterns that scans don’t show, and those often respond to focused therapy.
Can therapy improve leaks or incontinence without surgery or medication?
Pelvic floor therapy can help many people with bladder leaks and urinary incontinence, especially stress incontinence (leaks with coughing, sneezing, laughing, or exercise) and urgency or overactive bladder. Through targeted pelvic floor work, breathing and pressure management, bladder training, and lifestyle strategies, many patients notice a meaningful reduction in leaks, and some notice even more. Results vary from person to person, and it is one of the most evidence-supported, non-surgical ways to address incontinence.
Is pelvic floor therapy effective for pelvic pain, painful sex, or rectal pain?
For many people this is some of the most relieving work we do. Pain with sex, rectal or tailbone pain, and deep pelvic aching often ease with the right care. The pain is usually coming from muscles that are tight or overworked, nerves that have grown sensitive, and movement patterns that keep your body on high alert, all of which may respond to gentle hands-on treatment, breathing and relaxation techniques, and a slow, comfortable return to the things you’ve been avoiding. We go at your pace, and nothing happens without your consent.
Can therapy help prolapse symptoms without surgery?
In many mild to moderate cases, pelvic floor therapy may help reduce prolapse symptoms, and for some patients it can be part of a plan that delays or reduces the need for more invasive options. We work on strengthening and coordinating the pelvic floor and deep core, posture and breathing, and managing pressure with lifting, exercise, and daily activity. Many people notice less heaviness or pressure and feel more supported with standing, walking, and staying active. For more advanced prolapse, therapy can still be valuable alongside pessary fitting or surgical consults.
Is pelvic floor therapy safe during pregnancy?
For most pregnancies, yes. Care is built around your trimester, your symptoms, and any guidance from your OB or midwife, and we adjust techniques as your pregnancy progresses. If anything in your history needs clearance first, we will coordinate before treatment begins.
It’s been years since my symptoms started. Is it too late?
No. Whether your symptoms are weeks or years old, the underlying contributors can often still be addressed. It is rarely too late to feel better.
